Deep Mapping Kerry

Corca Dhuibhne / Deep Mapping / Dingle Peninsula Project

This project is a multi-year and multi-disciplinary study that uses the ‘deep mapping’ methodology to discover the richness of the cultural heritage of the peninsula with an attention to the humanities and social and physical sciences. Through the use of GIS mapping, significant places will tell the story of how the physical and built environments have brought a variety of meanings from the people who inhabited this geographical area over hundreds of years. Research will be presented in a variety of mediums from workshops, classrooms and conference materials to publications and digital materials on the internet.

This project has a plan to research and write about three related areas:

A. Holy Wells

B. Burial and religious sites

C. Movie locations

D. Coastal sites of pilgrimage, fishing, and trade
