A replica army barracks was built at the base of the Mionnán, a rocky outcrop above Ceann Sratha in Dún Chaoin. The upthrust pinnacles of volcanic rhyolite make for a dramatic backdrop, and to this day are the subject of much photography and footage taken in the area. Siúlóid na Cille is a local walking trail that passes through this place, and an information board along the way tells part of the story of the filming of Ryan’s Daughter. This can be seen in the panorama shot above. It is noteworthy that the battle scenes from WWI were also filmed here, although the extensive use of special effects smoke obscures much of the landscape.
